Journey to Team Canada – Karmen McNamara's Story
4 years ago, I began a journey and 4 years ago, I had never run a 5k, had never been on a road bike, and had never swam in open water. I was 30 lbs. overweight, and thought that people who called themselves "runners" were really just crazy people. I felt that was something I could never do. I wasn't built like those people.
One day, out of the blue, I decided to do a crazy thing. I decided to sign up for the SheRox Sprint Triathlon in San Diego. I was just going to finish the darn thing. So, in May of 2012, I started to train. And in September, I finished that race. I was addicted. I kept racing.
And in 2014, something unreal happened. I was asked to race for Team Canada at the World Championships in Edmonton. I knew I would have to get serious about training and nutrition so a friend suggested that I connect with Grant.
Grant told me I needed to focus on 2 things:
Build a base by training SLOWLY.
Lose 30 lbs. off my 5’2” 155 lb. frame.
